Wanted fugitive shot at Middleborough police before barricading self inside home – wwlp.com

MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WWLP) – Middleborough police have issued a shelter in place order after an armed fugitive shot at police.

According to a news release sent to 22News by Middleborough police, the incident began at 9:30 a.m. when Middleborough police and deputies from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Warrant Unit were serving an arrest warrant for a wanted fugitive at 469 Wareham Street.

Police said upon seeing the officers, the suspect open fired with a long gun.

No officers were injured, but police did pull back and take cover. The Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team was also called in for aid.

Officers are working to negotiate a “peaceful and safe surrender” after he barricaded himself in the home.

A section of Route 28 has been closed while police work.
