EL PASO, Texas – The suspect in the August 2017 murder of a man inside the Mesa Inn Motel in West El Paso is awaiting extradition to El Paso following his arrest in Mexico City.
Keith Antonio Boynes, 46, of Marietta, Georgia, was detained on August 7, 2018 by Mexican authorities. Boynes was being sought by the El Paso Police Department for the murder of George Lewis, of New Orleans, Louisiana. Boynes was recently added to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitive list.
On August 26, 2017, El Paso Police were called to the Mesa Inn Motel located at 4151 N. Mesa after Lewis was found dead inside a motel room. Homicide detectives identified Boynes as a suspect and, on August 29, 2017, obtained a warrant for Boynes arrest.
Investigators soon learned Boynes had fled to Mexico. On November 2, 2017, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force obtained an arrest warrant charging Boynes with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
On August 7, 2018, Mexican authorities located and detained Boynes in Mexico City, Mexico. Mexican authorities deported Boynes to Houston, Texas on the same date.
Boynes was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail without bond. He is awaiting extradition to El Paso.
