One of Merseyside’s most wanted fugitives is back in the UK after being tracked down in the Netherlands.
Simon McGuffie has been extradited after his arrest over drug supply allegations.
The 44-year-old was publicised as one of the UK’s most wanted over suspicions he could be connected to a Merseyside gang linked to the large-scale supply of cocaine, heroin and cannabis.
Detectives have wanted to speak to McGuffie, from Allerton, for several years.
It was thought he had been hiding out in Spain, but late last year police swooped on him in Amsterdam – another well-known hiding place for Merseyside suspects fleeing the authorities.
He was snared as a result of work between the National Crime Agency and the Dutch National Police just before Christmas and extradited in February.
He is now due to appear at Manchester Crown Court l ater this month for a plea and directions hearing.
Matt Burton, head of the NCA’s International Crime Bureau, said: “McGuffie thought that by moving around Europe he could evade capture, but there is no safe haven for fugitives.”
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Hussey, from North West regional organised crime squad Titan, said: “This arrest should demonstrate the commitment Titan and our partners have to tracking down those who try to evade justice, even if they leave the country.”
