A SAD LOSS: Mum Tracey with murdered son Josh, with suspect Shane O’Brien

Road planner Josh Hanson was 21 when he was stabbed in an unprovoked attack in a late-night bar in 2015.

Last month the hunt to find his alleged murderer went global as prime suspect Shane O’Brien, who sports a giant tattoo of an owl holding a skull across his back, was put on Interpol’s worldwide most-wanted list.

Now, 29 months after the senseless slaying, Josh’s shattered mum Tracey has relived the horror and sent a plea to O’Brien, 30.

Tracey told the Daily Star Sunday: “He had his whole life ahead of him and had it ended so brutally. And for what? For nothing.”

“I just went into profound shock – it’s hard to describe. It’s ripped my life apart.”

Josh was enjoying a night at the RE bar, in Hillingdon, west London, when he was set upon in an unprovoked assault after visiting a sick relative in hospital.

He was buying drinks when he was stabbed in the neck for no reason in front of 40 shocked onlookers in the early hours of the morning.

With blood pouring from the wound he collapsed to the floor but the bleeding was so heavy he died at the scene.

Tracey said: “I got a call saying Josh had been stabbed.

“My immediate response was to ask where and as soon as I was told the neck my heart just sank.

“When I got to the bar they wouldn’t let me see him.

“I just went into profound shock – it’s hard to describe. It’s ripped my life apart.”

Since the killing, Tracey has campaigned tirelessly to bring her son’s killer to justice.

Chief suspect O’Brien, from west London, has been on the run for two years after being flown out of the country on a private jet.

Police investigating the bar room murder issued a photograph of his body art as they offered a reward of £50,000 for his capture.

On the second anniversary of Josh’s murder, officers revealed that O’Brien was arrested for assault and criminal damage in the Czech Republic capital of Prague in February last year.

But the fugitive, using the Italian alias of Enzo Mellonceli supported by false documentation, fled after being bailed before his real identity became known.

Custody photos were taken, showing his distinctive new tattoo, which he has had since the alleged attack on Josh, of Kingsbury in north-west London.

It covered an original ink etching of “Shannon 15-04-06”, which was done after the birth of a daughter.

He had also grown his hair and was sporting a beard in a dramatic transformation of his clean-cut appearance since he went on the run.

Tracey said: “My message to you is do the right thing. Turn yourself in so police can talk to you.

“I just want to know what happened to my son that night. So please, do the right thing.”

O’Brien possibly went to Holland and the United Arab Emirates before returning to Europe after the incident.

He is also believed to have been spotted in Thailand.

She added: “Someone, somewhere, knows who he is and where he is. So please help us get justice for Josh.”

Tracey is appalled by the number of stabbings in the UK this year and called for a change in the law and education.

She said: “There’s always been knife crime but it seems to be getting worse.

“There needs to be a zero tolerance approach so that kids carrying knives are dealt with in such a way that they won’t do it again.

“Sadiq Khan asked schools if they’d use knife wands or knife detectors. “Why’s he asking? Just do it. It will save lives. So will educating youngsters on the consequences of using them.”

Met Police Det Insp Noel McHugh said: “Everyone wants to give Josh’s mum Tracey and his sister Brooke the news they really need to hear.”
