INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, Minn. – The most-wanted goat in the state of Minnesota is finally in custody.

Minnesota Public Radio reported the fugitive goat was captured Thursday in a St. Paul suburb after multiple sightings were reported over the past several days.

“In case you haven’t HERD… WE ‘GOAT EM.’ The IGH goat on the lam is now in custody,” the Inver Grove Heights Police Department said in a Facebook post. “After an extended search, countless calls and some help from a resident, the goat is resting safely in a pen in the police department garage. He’s actually pretty tame, but was obviously afraid.”

Police Chief Paul Schnell told MPR News that the goat was spotted Thursday after it hadn’t been seen in a couple of days.

The goat was spotted several times in the town and was seen peering into a patio door at one home, but he eluded animal control officers on several occasions, until Thursday.

“We got a call — a person who lives in a more rural area had kind of corralled the goat. The officers went down there and were able to secure it,” Schnell told the radio station.

Schnell said authorities were concerned that the goat might wander onto freeways. The department tried luring the animal with food for several days before it was captured.

The goat was brought back to the department and was later taken to the University of Minnesota’s Large Animal Hospital. He is expected to be there for about a week before going to a new home.
