A reputed gang member wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully carrying a firearm Wednesday in Northeast El Paso, officials said.
David Lamar Rollins, 30, was stopped by an El Paso Police Department Gang Unit officer at about 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 5400 block of Yvette Avenue, El Paso Police Department officials said. The reason for traffic stopped was not released.
During the traffic stop, officers found that Rollins was wanted on an outstanding warrant for possession of a controlled substance, officials said. Officers said they found a handgun in the center console of the black 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Rollins was driving.
Rollins was arrested in connection with the outstanding warrant and on suspicion of unlawfully carrying of a weapon by a gang member, officials said.
No details were released on which gang Rollins is suspected of being a member of.
Rollins was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a bond totaling $15,000. According to jail records, Rollins posted bail Thursday.
